05 April 08 - 06:19A Day Like Today

wishing for sunshine

in a time

when the future looks grim

skies are gritty and gray

young folks die, day after day

mothers bury their young

become an expected occasion

cancer spreads like wildfire

in a forest

on a hot summer's day

~

in a time

where people no longer smile

each man for himself

fighting for wealth

stepping on the hand of

the next man

on his way...

~

in a time

where equality only exists

in the mind

content since, niggers no longer hang from tall trees

racism now worn

beneath a long pressed sleeve and

a crooked smile

while folks walking around

deep in denial, I

continue to pray

’cause rest cometh

in the final day.

Some strong imagery and nice fluidity. Kudos to an accomplished poet.
